Ages 5-18

The Behavior Disorders Identification Scale-Second Edition: Renormed (BDIS-2:R) is based on the federal definition of emotional disturbance (IDEA) and designed to meet all state and federal guidelines for the identification of emotionally disturbed/behaviorally disordered students from 5 through 18 years of age. The BDIS-2:R subscales are Learning Problems, Interpersonal Relations, Inappropriate Behavior, Unhappiness/Depression, and Physical Symptoms/Fears.

The BDIS-2:R focuses on both the overt indicators of behavior disorders, as well as the more subtle indicators of withdrawal, depression, and suicidal tendencies. It includes School and Home Versions to provide a comprehensive profile of student behavior problems and relies on direct behavioral observations by educators and parents/guardians. Internal consistency, test-retest, and inter-rater reliability; item and factor analysis; and content, criterion-related, concurrent, and construct validity are documented and reported for the scale.

Characteristics and Components of the BDIS-2:R

  • The BDIS-2:R School Version was standardized on a total of 1,716 students.

  • The BDIS-2:R Home Version was standardized on a total of 1,508 students. Both versions included students from 18 states representing all geographic regions of the United States.

  • The BDIS-2:R provides separate norms for male and female students 5 through 18 years of age.

  • The School Version can be completed in approximately 20 minutes and includes 83 items easily observed and documented by educational personnel.

  • The Home Version can be completed by a parent/guardian in approximately 15 minutes and includes 73 items representing behavior exhibited in and around the home environment.

  • The Pre-Referral Behavior Checklist provides a format for identifying behaviors in need of intervention.

  • The Teacher’s Guide to Behavioral Interventions (TGBI) includes IEP goals, objectives, and interventions for all 83 items on the School Version of the scale and 27 additional behavior problems common in the educational environment.

  • The Intervention Strategies Documentation Form provides a written record to place in the student’s file, documenting problem areas and interventions implemented.

  • The BDIS-2:R Quick Score computer program converts raw scores to standard scores and percentiles which makes scoring efficient and convenient.

  • The TGBI computer program provides an individualized printout of goals, objectives, and interventions chosen for each student’s specific behavior problems for the development of the student’s IEP.

  • Educational Planning

The Teacher’s Guide to Behavioral Interventions (TGBI) (291 pages, © 1988) is a comprehensive behavioral intervention reference. It includes intervention strategies for the most common behavior problems found in schools, plus goals and objectives for developing an IEP for the student who is identified for special education services. The TGBI links assessment and intervention and offers the opportunity for the most comprehensive approach to individualizing behavioral interventions.

The Behavior Disorders Identification Scale-Second Edition: Renormed Quick Score computer program converts raw scores to standard scores and percentiles which makes scoring efficient and convenient.

The Teacher's Guide to Behavioral Interventions CD-ROM is a Windows®-compatible product designed to be used in conjunction with the Teacher's Guide to Behavioral Interventions manual. It provides the user with the ability to maintain individual student reports, the ability to print appendix pages, and three report options:

  • Individualized Intervention Program generates a printout of chosen goals, objectives, and intervention strategies to be implemented for a student prior to any formal assessment.

  • Intervention Strategies Documentation Form provides a report of chosen intervention strategies and dates of implementation. The implementer indicates which intervention strategies have been successful/unsuccessful for each behavior.

  • Functional Behavior Assessment documents each area of the functional behavior assessment process including antecedents and intervention strategies for each selected behavior.
